Turn Your Fence into a Selling Feature: Staging and Photography Tips for Homes with Aluminum Fencing

An aluminum fence can boost your home’s curb appeal, security, and resale value thanks to its stylish, low-maintenance design.

But how do you sell that?
How do you communicate to potential buyers that your fence is worth it?
How do you make an utilitarian fence look like a selling point?

Firstly, if you are staging your home or doing an open house, clean your fence.

You’re probably going to give your home a deep clean before putting it on the market. Luckily, an aluminum fence is pretty easy to clean. You really just need to hose it down every few months (read Routine Care and Cleaning Practices for Maintaining Your Aluminum Fence for more information). But don’t forget to trim the vegetation and clear away any clutter.

Consider adding one or two planters near the gate. Plants and flowers can really liven up a simple fence. Some homeowners add fresh mulch along the inside of the fence line to brighten up their shrubbery or create a visually striking border.

Secondly, the right photos can make all the difference.

They say a photo is worth a thousand words. But evoking the right emotion is priceless. You want the fence to feel secure, not imposing. So if you’re taking a shot of your front exterior, use the fence to frame the house. Step back away from the curb and frame the shot so the fence leads the eye towards the front door. Prop the gate open to make it feel inviting.

For the front and back yard, take photos from multiple perspectives so buyers can get a sense of the layout. We recommend taking pictures from two or more corners of the fence so you’re looking towards the house. This will also help define the perimeter of your yard. Take another photo from your door or patio looking out towards your yard.

If your aluminum fence encloses a pool, include at least one photo that shows both the pool and the fence together. And mention that your pool fence is up to code (assuming it is) with self‑closing gates.

Some will also take close-up shots of attractive elements of the fence such as spear-top pickets, decorative scrolls, or solar-powered light caps. These close-ups can really show the quality of the fence, but aren’t absolutely necessary. We would recommend taking pictures that include the fence and another amenity or aspect of your home. Show them what the fence is protecting.

Finally, spell out the benefits.

There are obvious benefits like protection, security, and peace of mind. But some benefits are not obvious from a photo. For example, you might want to mention that your aluminum fence is immune to rust and rot, that it’s low-maintenance, and can last for decades.

Connect it to what buyers care about: it’s a safe space for kids to run around in. It’s a place where you can let your dog off leash. It’s a comfortable outdoor space where you can kick back, relax, and make memories.

For landlords and property managers, you’ll want to emphasize how the aluminum fence differentiates your unit from similar rentals. It shows that you care for the security of your tenants. As well as give them a safe, dedicated outdoor space.

Remember, your aluminum fence is more than a practical choice, it’s an aesthetic one that enhances your curb appeal!
