So you have a pool. Maybe you’re a new homeowner who has finally purchased the pool of their dreams. Or perhaps you’re a rental property manager enhancing a property with a pool amenity.

Safety Regulations and Requirements
You should check in with your local authority for specific regional regulations. However, the national guidelines are generally as follows:
- Minimum Height: The fence must be at least 48 inches tall.
- Picket Spacing: The spacing between vertical pickets should be less than 4 inches.
- Bottom Rail Gap: The gap between the bottom rail and the ground should be less than 2 inches.
- Horizontal Rail Placement: The middle horizontal rail should be at least 45 inches above the bottom rail. This prevents (or at least deters) climbing.
- Gate Requirements: Pool gates must be self-closing and self-latching. This latch must be positioned out of reach of small children, generally at the chest height of the average adult.

Plus, these rules save lives. Before the US implemented national guidelines and requirements for pool barriers, there were many tragic pool incidents. Thankfully, you and your family are much safer thanks to something as simple as a fence.
