Parks are popular community spaces, making it important to help keep everyone who will visit safe. Carefully placed fences can help keep everyone where they should be.
Parks come in many different layouts, but the most elaborate ones utilize fences to create functional spaces, move traffic, and secure at-risk areas. How are parks able to do that just with fences?
Protect Creative Layouts and Functional Spaces
First, the park is divided up into specific areas, often determined by function. For example, is there playground equipment? If so, what is the age range for it? I can be helpful to have fencing around playground equipment designed for older children to keep toddlers from entering and getting hurt.
Likewise, it is often a good idea to have fencing around toddler equipment to ensure that they are being supervised and to help prevent child abductions.
Is there a baseball, football, or soccer field? What about tennis courts or skateboarding areas? Most of these fields traditionally have steel posts with chain link fences, but aluminum fences offer a more attractive solution. If a player ran into it, a steel fence would probably hold up better, but it would also injure the players more.
Aluminum fences could be a safer option that still maintained the same perception of security.
Is there a restroom area? If so, what distinguishes it from the rest of the park and how do people know how do get there. Signs are okay, and sidewalk paths are good, but if you run a fence along the edge of the sidewalk, it helps people get there easily.
Another kind of park that could use a significant amount of fencing for security reasons is a flower garden.
Fences in these gardens help people know just how close they can get to the plants before causing them harm. Many adults will know this already, but children and dogs will not.
Fences Can Help Direct Traffic Around the Park
Fences are also useful in flower garden parks to help direct traffic around and through the park. When areas are not separated out into clear paths, it can be challenging to figure out the best way to move through the park in order to see all the sights, especially if the park is large and irregularly shaped. If you have maintenance sheds or other areas off-limits to the public, fences can also be used to direct them away from such places.
Sometimes traffic direction is related to safety.
Dog parks, for example, could benefit from fences around the exterior of the park to prevent dogs from breaking loose and running out into the road (or onto other property) where they could easily get hurt or lost.
Fences placed inside that same park could help create a kind of track to keep the dogs exercising productively instead of chasing after every other dog in the park that they see.
Securing At-Risk Areas
Why do nearly all forms of athletic fields have fences around them? It is because you do not want random folks running out into the middle of the ballfield, interrupting the game. It is really that simple. Only players, coaches, and referees are allowed on the field during the event itself, and fences are the primary way of communicating that to the public.
As a form of communication, fences do not need to be made of concrete, cast iron, or stainless steel to deliver their message. Less expensive fences, like aluminum fences, can easily deter all but the most stubborn of people (who would probably climb over the more costly fences anyway).
Ballfields could be considered “at-risk areas” for interruption by people wandering through and disrupting the games. There are other kinds of risks related to sporting and other types of entertainment as well.
If you use a park to put on a sporting event or concert which is ticketed and intended to raise money, and you do not have fences around the event, there is little you can do to prevent trespassers from sneaking in without paying. Without fences for these kinds of events, you can be out hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Fences do not just secure property, they secure your profits as well.
Finally, fences secure children in recreational areas and keep them safe. The danger of having children in parks without fences is that they can run off and get lost or hurt, or others can come in and attack or take them.
Aluminum fences help create very specific, monitored and often locked-in areas that keep children in and predators out. This way, parents, and chaperones need to focus on only one location (
the gated entryway/exit) to be sure their children do not leave. These kinds of fences can save lives.
If you are investing in a park, whether it is a sports park, a botanical garden, a dog park, or a more elaborate theme park, you need to invest in good, inexpensive, strategically located fences to make it the best possible experience for your visitors.
